Senior Practitioner – Social Work: Support for Children and Families with No Recourse to Public Funds
Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre
Salary: £44,257 – £52,373
Hours: 36 per week
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
We believe that every child and young person deserves the best possible start in life. Our aim is for Edinburgh’s children to be safe, healthy, nurtured, educated, active and respected.
Currently located in the South West Children and Families Practice Team, the post holder will assess need and develop effective support plans for children and their families across Edinburgh who have No Recourse to Public Funds.
The post holder will take a lead role in assessing families who present as destitute and have no recourse to public funds, offering support and signposting to accredited advice as necessary.
The post holder will be experienced in working collaboratively with others and act as a resource to the Communities and Families Department and on occasion, our multi-agency partners. This includes guidance to managers and staff regarding the Locality Authority’s role in supporting families no recourse to public funds.
OTHER DUTIES OF THE ROLE:
– responsibility for a complex caseload in line with the wider statutory obligations of the Council and Departmental policies and procedures. These cases will include assessments of need, risk, strengths, and any longer-term intervention required.
– contribution to and promotion of high practice standards within the team and the achievement of good outcomes for children and their families.
– keeping abreast of new research and developments in local and national policy and legislation related to social work and immigration issues and to assist with dissemination of such information within the team.
– offering consultation, support, and mentoring, as appropriate, to practitioner colleagues.
Children’s Services is in the engagement stages of a service review. Applicants should note that structures and posts will be subject to change as part of the service review.
Applicants must hold a Social Work qualification recognised by the SSSC.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
