Dumfries & Galloway’s Fostering and Adoption Team are seeking a Senior Family Support Worker to join our team. This is a 36 hour per week post which is based in the West of the Region. This is a region wide team providing a comprehensive service to kinship, foster and adoptive carers to help support the children and young people they care for.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Family Support Worker to provide support services to foster, adoptive, kinship carers and supported lodgings providers through range of activities from taking initial enquiries to sourcing foster homes, assisting in the arranging and delivering of training to carers and their families, as well as offering support advice and assistance to carers on both a group and individual basis. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and who is a personable individual. In this role, you will offer professional advice, guidance, support and supervision to foster carers and adoptive parents and their families to sustain children and young people in their placements, ensuring that carers have support in the undertaking of training and on-going professional development. Within this role you will also undertake routine planned and un-planned visits to the carers.
Good communication is essential between all relevant Local Authority stakeholders responsible for the welfare of the child or young person in placement. Contribution to the carer annual review process will also be required.
You will need the energy and enthusiasm to make significant contributions to the work of the team. You will be supported to undertake training opportunities to enhance your personal development to gain further qualifications as appropriate.
You will need to have excellent communication skills and a commitment to high quality practice. You will have the ability to prepare thorough assessments leading to recommendations based on the analysis of these. You will be committed to evidence-based practice and will receive good support and regular supervision.
You should be educated to level SCQF 7 (HNC,SVQ 3 or equivalent).
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candi-dates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to for-mal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
