An opportunity has arisen for a number of posts in Family and Household Support. A service with a broad and varied remit, Family and Household Support takes an innovative and unique approach to responding to Anti-Social Behaviour and Community Safety as well as wider societal issues such as poverty and maximising household income , access to education and community support .

At its heart, Family and Household Support is a preventative and early intervention service which seeks to address the root causes of Anti-Social Behaviour and family breakdown by offering a range of holistic supports, including Housing Support, Family Support and Mediation. You will be expected to work closely with individuals, families, groups, communities and partners to promote a restorative approach to neighbour disputes, social inclusion, and community involvement. Working systemically with individuals, families and communities to understand and promote positive change and promote the safeguarding and wellbeing of Children, Families, Individuals and Communities. Offering a person-centred, outcome focused, intervention to all age groups including vulnerable adult clients as well as families who may have children of a pre-school age part of the household, you will draw on the principles of Getting It Right for Everyone in undertaking assessments, and develop SMART action plans to support people to achieve positive outcomes, maintain tenancies, tackle inequality and isolation. As a Senior Support Worker you will be expected to manage complex casework, undertake formal mediation in neighbour disputes, take a lead role in operational initiatives, including leading on project work and cooperate with a range of partners and services in order to achieve a positive outcome for families, individuals and communities.

You will supervise and mentor Family and Household Support volunteers and others such as those new to the Family and Household Support role, which may include students, providing guidance, support and direction in all aspects of Family and Household Support activity. As an experienced senior practitioner, you will also deputise for the Family and Household Support Team Leader were appropriate and relevant and represent the service at key multi-agency meetings. You will have wide range of skills, experience and knowledge, and have an approach to your work that both supports and challenges people to change behaviour and that empowers and enables others to reach their potential.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.  For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
