For Falkirk Council employees this is a secondment opportunity. Prior to application please obtain confirmation from your current Line Manager that you can be released to take up this secondment opportunity, should you be successful.
Due to the continued expansion within our service, temporary opportunities have arisen for full-time Senior Carers across the Falkirk Council area for a period of 12 months, after which time posts will be reviewed.
As a Senior Carer you will be involved in supporting service users with a wide range of support needs within their own homes to assist them in achieving an optimum level of independence with aspects of daily living. You will also be required to undertake workplace observations and supervision of the care staff working in your area, ensuring a high-quality service is being provided and which meets the Health and Social Care Standards.
Previous experience of working in a care setting is essential for the position of Senior Carer. We are looking for individuals with commitment, patience and an understanding of ageing and disability and their effect on people’s lives. You must be able to work under pressure and deal confidently, calmly and sensitively with difficult situations. You must have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both internal and external, and in addition, have excellent team working and written skills.
You will receive induction and developmental training and work closely with our colleagues in the Health and Social Care Partnership to achieve best outcomes for Service Users.
Due to the nature of the post, it is essential that you are familiar with, and are competent in computer IT systems including Word and Excel packages. In addition, the service operates a Real Time Monitoring Scheduling System (CM2000) in which you would receive full training.
You must have the ability to be mobile across the Council area.
You are required to commit to a rostered shift working pattern including evenings, weekends and public holidays which consists of 7 days worked over a 14-day period. The contracted hours of the post are 37 hours per week; but these will be averaged over a 2-week roster period with the current shift time being 7am to 1.20pm (including a 20-minute unpaid break) and 4pm to 8.34pm. An element of flexibility will be required to these hours to meet the needs of the service. The post involves lone working.
Applying for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council within the first 3 months of working with Falkirk Council is a requirement of the post. You will also be required to achieve an SVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care within an agreed timescale if you have not already achieved this award.
If you are the successful candidate for the role of Senior Carer, you will be working with children and/or vulnerable adults which is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007; therefore, you must have PVG membership or undergo a PVG scheme update.
This post is temporary until September 2025 due to service requirements.
