Residential Children Support Worker (Health and Social)
To assist the Manager in the delivery of a quality service and to meet the assured needs of children and young people. Key Results Areas 1.0 Residential Care Provision
1.1 To work with children and young people according to the individuals needs, providing focussed work as planned and directed.
1.2 To assist in the co-ordination of activities within the Unit and ensure that they are well managed and produce safe and consistent care.
1.3 To be involved in and organise activities which are in the best interests and meet the needs of those looked after. . 2.0 Personnel
2.1 To assist the Unit Manager in organising and delegating responsibilities to all staff, and planning a duty rota, including sleeping-in duties for staff.
2.2 To promote professionalism at all times.
3.0 Training & Development
3.1 Contribute to 'In-House’ staff development and training programmes e.g NVQ
4.0 Team Contribution
4.1 To encourage the culture of flexibility and team working amongst the workforce.
4.2 To contribute to Service Group projects as directed.
5.0 Administration
5.1 To assist the Manager in carrying out the Home’s administration,
6.0 Physical Environment
6.1 To report any deterioration in the condition of the premises to the Manager and arrange or any maintenance work as directed.
6.2 Ensure security of the House, including contents, confidential records, cash, keys, furniture and equipment, residents’ clothing and possessions.
7.0 Health and Safety
7.1 To assist the Manager in ensuring the safety of residents of the home, including organising regular fire drills.
7.2 To assist the Manager in attending to the health of the children, arranging medical and dental examinations, and maintaining high standards of hygiene within the home.
7.3 To understand and operate within the Authority’s Health and Safety Guidelines and Manual, including best practice in food handling.
7.4 To ensure that Health and Safety standards are met.
7.5 Be conversant with emergency and evacuation procedures.
8.0 Personal Contribution
8.1 To be an effective role model for other members of staff.
8.2 Participate in training courses as arranged and undertake professional training if the opportunity is offered though secondment.
8.3 To work flexible hours including: weekends, bank holidays; be available to sleep in if required, according to the needs of the service.
9.0 Confidentiality
9.1 Observe confidentiality at all times in relation to the Home and its residents, recognising the vulnerability of the residents.
Qualifications and Experience Qualified to NVQ Level 3
Knowledge of child care legislation & regulations Human growth and development
Assessment & care planning process Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Fire Regulations
Basis understanding of Children's Rights
