As a Residential Care Worker you will be expected to:
Develop and implement strategies to assist young people to develop positive relationships along with the promotion of a child centred approach, which puts the child at the centre of all our working practices.
Work with young people enabling them to take and manage appropriate risks.
De-escalate and manage young people’s challenging behaviour.
Liaise and work with parents, professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies to develop positive outcomes.
Participate in service/external training, staff/team meetings, as necessary.
Ensure individuals are treated in a respectful and dignified manner, upholding confidentiality at all times and understanding boundaries.
Keep accurate records of outcomes focused support.
Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the PVG scheme for children and adults.
You are required to register with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of taking up employment in this role and to complete the required Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) over the registration period.
This post has a salary paid at FC6 £23483-£26768 per annum. Unsocial hours and sleepover payments are paid where applicable in addition to this salary.
It is essential to have an HNC in Social Care/Child Care or equivalent and an SVQ Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) Level 3 or SVQ Promoting independence Level 3 or an HNC Social Care Combined Award with mandatory SVQ modules completed. An expectation that a commitment to complete any required additional units within allocated timescales will be essential.
You will work with young people who are being looked after in small residential houses in the community. You may also work with other teams to support children and young people within their homes. The philosophy of the service is to provide a positive culture where young people can develop and grow as individuals.
You will have previous experience of working with children / young people or other vulnerable groups.
You will undertake shifts on a rota basis, including evenings, weekends and night cover and sleep ins, for which appropriate allowances will be paid.
You will have knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance and young people’s rights/responsibilities.
You must be able to work as part of a team.
The ability to develop and maintain appropriate relationships and to create a safe, caring environment is essential.
Good verbal and written communication skills (including the use of technology) are required.
In this position you will be required to travel throughout Fife.
