Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 12 and above (currently £32,555 per annum / £16.92 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

job purpose/about the role

This post is a new and exciting opportunity for a practitioner to support the the statutory roles and functions Council Officers’ under the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007.

The post holder will develop, design and deliver a range of learning and development opportunities in Adult Support and Protection. To support the practice learning and development across social work, the Health and Social Care Partnership and the council as the lead agency.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

• Professional qualification in Social Work and registration with SSSC.
• PVG membership for Regulated Work with Children and/or Vulnerable Adults or the willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

Skills and experience in:-

• Experience of successfully managing a varied and complex caseload.
• Considerable experience as a qualified Social Worker in adult protection work
• Excellent knowledge of legislation, policies and practices associated with Community Care
• Work autonomously as a representative of the lead agency.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to confidently deliver presentations
• Work staff at pre-qualifying and post qualifying levels
• Working with adults at risk of harm

An understanding of:-

• To comply with all data protection law in the processing of personal, and special categories of personal data, in line with the council’s full privacy statement and service privacy notices
• The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007, the Code of Practice for the legislation, and local policy/procedures in relation to this legislation.
• Other legislation that also pertains to adult protection. For example, The Mental Health Care and Treatment (Scotland) Act 2003 and The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.
• The theory, principles and processes involved in the delivery of social work and social care.
