Outreach Support Worker
35 hours per week

£28,488 – £30,553 (including Distant Islands Allowance)
The Community Mental Health Team support individuals who require assistance with their mental health issues. These posts will be to work within the substance misuse team, assisting people who have issues with substances, and also those with dual diagnosis.
As an Outreach Support Worker, you will use harm reduction and recovery models to support patients. You will also use a patient focussed care plan to assist the patient to work collaboratively make informed choices about their care. We are looking for a skilled worker to join our team. This role in geographical terms, covers the whole of Orkney.
You will carry a varied caseload of people including some younger people, who want to access support to help them deal with their substance misuse, and or be supported with their mental health problem. You will work with the clients in the community, using psycho-education to teach them about drugs and alcohol, dispelling myths and supporting them to develop a wider range of coping strategies. Within the role you will be looking at all aspects of the client’s life signposting them to access other services where appropriate.
You will be qualified to SVQ level 3 in social care or hold an equivalent qualification. You will be working using a multi-agency approach – looking at helping the service user create a community support package. You would be expected to attend multi agency meetings regarding your clients, so a good understanding of safeguarding is important. As the role is outreach; good time management will be important as will strong IT skills. You will be expected to manage your own client records and be able to work autonomously. You should also have an understanding about the importance of lone working policies and assessing risk particularly with regard to yourself.
Professional support will be provided through the Adult, Older Adult Teams and the Operational and Service Managers.
This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with adults.
You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirement of the Service.
