The Child Protection Duty Team (CPDT) provides support on a crisis and planned basis to children, young people and their families for the whole of Perth and Kinross area. This team is the gateway to the overall children service provision for those who do not have an allocated social worker.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a mental Health Support Worker to be based within the CPDT Team to work with children and young people across Services for Children, Young People and Families.
This post is funded through the Community Mental Health Fund and is initially funded on a temporary basis and is a fixed term post for a full year from the date of employment. It is also hoped additional funding may be secured after this initial period to extend this post further.
The Mental Health Support Worker will support children and young people to help them understand and manage mild emotional and mental health difficulties and promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
In addition to working directly with children and families, the post holder will be expected to work closely with the Specialist Mental Health Worker and other professionals and staff within Education and Children’s services.
The Mental Health Support Worker will also work closely with internal and external partners to provide mental health support and form a key part of the support plans for children and young people.
Home visits are frequently undertaken and therefore having a full, current driving licence is essential.
The Mental Health Support Worker role requires a qualification of HNC/SVQ3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent. Experience in supporting children and young people experiencing mental health issues is also essential.
An awareness and understanding of child and young people mental health issues and the impact of trauma is essential. You will have a good understanding of Child Protection work.
You will be able to evidence a strong commitment to multi-agency working and be a skilled and confident communicator; able to fully contribute to assessment reports and in Professional Meetings, Child Protection Case Conferences, Core Groups and Children’s Hearings.
As a person, you will be compassionate and have empathy for the children, young people and families who you support. You will also be organised and able to work flexibly to meet service need.
This role will cover the whole of the Perth & Kinross area and you will work with a variety of professionals to foster a multi disciplinary and whole family approach.
