Job Purpose:
To deliver a statutory social work/care management service to service users, who have complex needs and/or are in crisis, their families and carers who are experiencing or are affected by mental illness or serious mental health problems.
To undertake all Mental Health Officer (MHO) functions under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment)(Scotland) Act 2003 (The 2003 Act), Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995 (the 1995 Act)and Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act, 2000 (the 2000 Act) and all other relevant, applicable and ancillary legislation as an independent professional on behalf of Aberdeen City Council and to act as specialist consultants to a wide range of others.
These functions will be carried out together or separately as required.
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
Professional Social Work Qualification (BA in Social Work or equivalent i.e. DIPSW/CQSW)
SSSC Registration
MHO Registration / MHO Qualification
PVG membership for regulated work with protected adults and children or a willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made
The post holder is expected to demonstrate:
Ability to relate to, communicate and work with a wide range of professionals, service users and carers
Ability to manage risk
Interviewing and investigation skills
Assessment skills (including finance)
Ability to manage constant and conflicting demands
Ability to make decisions and take responsibility for own practice, seeking advice and support as necessary
Commitment to providing high quality customer service
