The Additional Family/Youth Support Service (AFYSS) aims to provide support to families and keep children and young people safe, at home and within their own communities wherever possible. AFYSS looks to deliver a holistic response, in keeping with the principles of “Getting it Right For every Child” that is speedy, appropriate, and proportionate. We are looking for motivated individuals who are committed to providing children and young people with the service they deserve. We look to support children and young people to remain safely at home and where appropriate will contribute significantly to the rehabilitation plans of children returning home.
You will be responsible for an allocated caseload of vulnerable, complex, and often marginalised families, as indicated some of these children/young people will be “care experienced” and may be placed on Child Protection Register. Cases referred to AFYSS fall between 0 – 18 years and you will be expected to contribute to care planning/risk management and providing a range of interventions (which may include groupwork). These posts will also involve working with other relevant partner agencies, possibly with multi-disciplinary settings. As part of the wider Whole System Approach, you will also provide court support services to young people which could include Bail Supervision, Structured Deferred Sentences and Diversion from Prosecution.
You must have significant experience working within a child/young person setting, Experience in working across partner agencies i.e., health, education, police, Courts etc., Proven ability to engage well with disadvantaged families and young people which requires effective communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to manage situations where conflict may arise.
Pro social modelling and advocacy are a large part of this role as is the ability to manage your own time and prioritise effectively. You will have a positive attitude to the use of I.T, have knowledge and/or experience of the Eclipse system, be flexible in approach, and have a commitment to Social Work values. You will also provide advice, guidance and support to children, young people and families who may be in crisis so it is essential you have knowledge and understanding of issues and barriers Care Experienced young people and their families may face. Therefore, you will require to be flexible as this post will involve work out with normal office hours and evenings and weekends as part of a team rota system.
HNC or SVQ3 in Social Care or relevant qualification is also essential.
Full Current Driving Licence, Training in working with parents i.e., Triple P/NVR/Motivational Interviewing and Experience of the Children’s Hearing and / or Court systems is desirable.
