Housing Support Officer (Refugee Resettlement Programme)
17.5 hours per week
£22,617 – £24,405 (Including Distant Islands Allowance)
Temporary up to 31 March 2023
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and dedicated individual, to join our Housing Support team. The postholder will be required predominantly to support people who are being resettled through the Refugee Resettlement Programmes for Ukrainian and Afghan nationals and equally people with a range of support needs to promote independent living and to assist service users to sustain their tenancy.
The post will require the post-holder to work jointly with those delivering Interpretation Services and other agencies to ensure the best outcome for those being resettled under the Refugee Resettlement Programme.
To be successful, you will have the ability to provide a high level of customer care and be a good, confident communicator who is able to cope with a wide variety of situations. In addition the post requires a flexible attitude and the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changes in legislation.
Also there is a requirement to have knowledge of the situation facing refugees and an understanding of the issues surrounding their resettlement The provision of housing support generally requires the ability to work with a broad range of people, be non-judgemental and have well developed people skills.
You should have a good general standard of education and you will also be required to hold or complete the Professional Development Award in Housing Law, Information and Advice (SCQF Level 7) from Shelter Scotland at the first intake following appointment. Full current driving licence (please note the Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so if you are unable to drive due to a disability your application will still be considered).
You will be required to attend training courses within and outwith Orkney.
This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with adults.
