This is a generic post within the Housing Options Team however the successful post holder will be within the Prevention Team.
The role involves identifying and working with all households in East Lothian who are at risk of homelessness either in their existing tenancy, providing support and advice on finding housing options in East Lothian across all tenures.
The post holder will be responsible for case management, working with a range of clients across all tenures in East Lothian. They will have knowledge and experience on housing options available in the district, assisting with maximisation of income/benefit entitlement, maximising priority for all house types, and working with other agencies to prevent homelessness. Above all assisting households to find or sustain secure affordable accommodation. They will also have working knowledge in various legislation to ensure clients are aware of their rights within various tenures.
As part of the wider Community Housing Service, provide a comprehensive frontline housing options, homelessness assessment and temporary accommodation management service ensuring that the Council’s corporate statutory homeless responsibilities are met.
The jobholder will also work closely with other services and agencies in both developing and delivering the service ensuring regulatory and legal compliance with a range of housing and related legislation.

Must be educated to HNC Level or equivalent in a housing, health or social work subject with previous experience of providing a range of advice related to homelessness and/or housing.
A full current driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential to manage the workload of this post*

This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
