Your new role
The department consists of 2 staff members and works closely with the Corporate Services Department to deliver a professional Health & Safety function across all services. The Head of Department will deliver a comprehensive, health and safety support and advisory service across the organisation that ensures compliance with health and safety legislation and promotes a positive health and safety culture.

The successful candidate will have set of objectives although not limited to:

• Deliver the existing Health & Safety strategy and operational plan and ensure the provision of clear, consistent, relevant and timely advice on all aspects of health, safety and wellbeing.
• Maintain a robust Health & Safety Management System through the development, implementation, monitoring and reviewing of policies, procedures, processes, safe working practices and risk assessment.
• Advise and support senior management on organisational risk management in respect of health, safety and wellbeing.
• Support a positive safety culture and provide accurate and clear interpretation of Health & Safety legislation and best practice.

What you’ll need to succeed

The successful candidate should hold the below:

• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (essential)
• Experience in working in a multi-site organisation providing complex care
• Qualified to degree level or equivalent
• Chartered Member of IOSH (preferred)
• Fire Safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH national certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management
• Experience of dealing with enforcing authorities and willingness to work irregular hours on occasion in the event of an emergency
• Good interpersonal and persuasive skills; ability to work on own initiative.
• Excellent report writing skills
• Impressionable and able to problem solve
