To assist child care social workers in maintaining children in their own homes. The Family Support Workers will work directly with parents and children, usually within the homes of the families concerned and under the direction of child care social workers. The aim is to increase parental knowledge, understanding and self-esteem and for children to develop positively in a safe and caring family environment.
To participate in the assessment of child and parental needs under the supervision of child care social workers by working with families in their own homes.
To offer support to families within their own homes under the direction of child care social workers.
To assist in the rehabilitation of children who have been accommodated by the Council.
To encourage the use of community resources by vulnerable families.
To become involved with area teams in departmental and interagency initiatives to develop new forms of service.
