You will have a HND or equivalent and have relevant experience in business or in a regulatory environment and be willing to study for the DCATS (Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards) or equivalent.
You will form part of the Trading Standards team and undertake tasks allocated in respect of the enforcement of age restricted sales legislation and in particular in respect of the sale of tobacco and Nicotine Vaping Products and the enforcement of other specific consumer protection legislation including advice to businesses and consumers where appropriate.
You will have a broad understanding of Trading Standards and experience in a commercial or local government environment. You will also have experience in dealing with the public or retailers face to face, and in confrontational or awkward situations.
You will be able to work with the minimum of supervision, on your own initiative, plan your own work programme and determine priorities. The ability to deal with the public in both educational and enforcement situations is also essential.
You will be computer literate, have report writing skills and be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
You will be willing to work outwith normal working hours when necessary and be able to work flexibly.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
