This is a fixed term post until 01/05/2022.
West Dunbartonshire HSCP Learning Disability Service delivers high quality housing support services to adults. We are looking for committed, motivated and flexible people to join our housing support team. The housing support service operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. A rota is in operation and you would be required to work early shifts, back shifts and sleepovers which also includes weekend working.
Duties include assisting the people we support with all aspects of daily living which can include personal care, medication and help with preparing meals. Working in a person centred way, you will also assist supported people to maintain and develop these daily living skills and to identify and achieve positive life outcomes. You will support people to build and develop support plans to achieve these outcomes.
You must have a minimum SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent. It is also essential that you have experience of working with adults with learning disabilities. You must be able to demonstrate within your application form that you are reliable and flexible with the ability to work as part of a team. You will also be required to demonstrate that you can communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) and this would include monitoring and reporting changes in the identified needs of supported people including the handling of sensitive information. You must be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or achieve registration within 6 months of your start date.
If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland PVG check.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.
Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.
The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are “spent” under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
