Status: Full Time, Permanent
Location: Marischal College, Aberdeen
To lead a group of social work and clinical practitioners, and work directly with children and families, leading case management and working within a systemic framework to provide a comprehensive and effective integrated social work service. To be fully accountable for all work undertaken in a timely manner for children and families allocated to the social work unit. This will be achieved by assessing need, planning and delivering focused intervention to safeguard children and develop appropriate plans for children and families to promote positive outcomes.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
BA in Social Work or equivalent i.e. CQSW/DipSW
Systemic Practice Qualification or working towards as directed by the Council
Post qualifying experience working with children and families
Evidence of continuing professional development including systemic practice
The post holder will be expected to:
Work flexible hours to fit with the needs of children and families
Travel as required in relation to the needs of the service
Work at night and weekends when required
Work at alternative locations as required
Work in accordance with Adult, Child and Public Protection principles and procedures
Maintain SSSC registration
Adhere to the requirements of the SSSC Code of Practice, council Policy and Procedures and all relevant Legislation
The post holder is expected to demonstrate:
A commitment to the principles of the Social Work Unit model
An ability to lead and manage the unit by supporting and motivating staff to work purposefully and cohesively in order to promote positive outcomes for children and families
An understanding of relationship management and the capacity to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships across organisational, functional and unit boundaries to ensure high quality practice is consistent
The ability to create a rapport and build relationships with children and families
A high level of consultative, interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills including the ability to deal with complex issues
The ability to analyse and evaluate complex information to produce high quality, concise reports to inform quality casework and business decisions
The ability to provide, formulate and implement focused and purposeful social work interventions with families with explicit aims and objectives about desired outcomes
The ability to develop co-operative working relations which impact on more than one social work unit to enable efficient and timeous benefits without delay to the benefit of children and families.
Professional expertise to contribute to the development of operational policies and procedures for the service area
The ability to manage and utilise cash limited budgets in order to commission services and assistance from other sources and the ability to prioritise cost- effective use of available resources An awareness of the importance of considered, shared analysis of risk and
protective factors and high quality planning for all children and instil and embed this understanding in the fabric of the unit
The ability to negotiate, lead and influence multi-agency planning, review and decision making meetings
The ability to maintain an overview, awareness and accountability for all work undertaken for children and families allocated to the social work unit
