Salary: £22,129 – £26,393
Hours: 36 per week
Purpose of Job
Within defined boundaries, co ordinate the provision of a range of social care services to meet the assessed needs of individuals requiring assistance. Your responsibilities will include carrying out non complex assessments with a range of needs from a wide diversity of backgrounds, designing and implementing care plans with support.
The post holder will be required to contribute and support professional staff within a multi disciplinary team in managing their case loads by carrying out a range of designated tasks, ensuring departmental objectives and service user’s needs are met. The percentage of time spent on each of these tasks and location will vary.
The post holder will be required to respond to emergency needs, by arranging / coordinating support / material provision, to ensure appropriate and accurate records relating to service users and work undertaken are maintained in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Legislation and to liaise with and source internal and external providers/agencies/charities.
The post holder will be required to undertake joint visits with professional staff, as appropriate, arrange and accompany clients on interest visits and liaise with necessary parties and to escort and transport clients as required.
The post holder will be managing service users from diverse backgrounds with diverse needs i.e. individuals who have a cognitive impairment, display some challenging behaviours, individuals who have severe physical or mental disabilities, who have substance mis use issues and individuals who are terminally ill.
The post holder will work within well defined boundaries and guidelines according to the areas of work under taken. The post allows for significant autonomous working with supervision as per departmental guidelines. Conflicting and limited resources and services may impact on practice, the post holder will be required to identify and manage the demands of this.
The post holder will have the emotional resilience to work with service users who are experiencing homelessness, who have been abused or who are socially isolated.
The post holder would be expected to use electronic communication to its full potential and be confident in its use.
The post holder will be expected to prioritise their own caseload.
The post holder should have an HNC qualification in Social Care. This should be supplemented with an SVQ Level 3 in Social Care/ HNC/SVQ for Health Support Workers or Occupational Therapy Support, have previous experience in working with homelessness and/or a range of social care or health settings, have an understanding of the needs of adult social care service user groups, have good organisational and practical skills and be flexible and creative in the delivery of the service and have good communication and listening skills.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
