An opportunity has arisen within the Health and Social Care Dementia Team for a Community Care Assistant. The successful applicant will be expected to function as part of an integrated team.

You will assist Social Workers and Occupational Therapists by undertaking a range of tasks and support roles.

You will be required to undertake simple assessments of a client’s need in order to provide equipment, minor adaptations, packages of care and support respite breaks to enable them to maintain their independence at home. You will also be required to carry out reviews within the community and care homes.

You must enjoy working with people and be able to work independently within a community setting. Previous experience of working in a health or social care setting is desirable as is a qualification e.g HNC/SVQ level 2 in Care or a related discipline.

You should have good organisational skills and a working knowledge of IT.

You must hold a current driving license.

This position constitutes regulated work with protected adults and membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential. The successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or to undergo a PVG Scheme Record update check prior to appointment. Experience and knowledge of working with those with Dementia is desirable.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £26,918.62 per annum.

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children and adults.
