Since 2015, East Renfrewshire Council has accommodated a number of refugee families under the Vulnerable Person Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) and continues to engage in schemes to support Ukraine and Afghanistan nationals. As part of this resettlement, funding has been allocated to employ a Client Adviser who will work closely with resettled clients to support their employment needs and aspirations. We are looking for a motivated person, seeking a challenging role within a busy economic development environment. Working as part of a team you will be responsible for engaging with resettled clients who are newly arrived and adapting to life in another country.
Access to work is a key marker of integration for refugees, resettled and displaced persons. However, there can be significant barriers, which prevent this cohort gaining employment or which lead to them being underemployed including potential language barriers. At East Renfrewshire, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to work to their full potential and to earn a living. We want to ensure we have the right support in place for targeted interventions and additional support to allow this client group to access, participate and progress within the labour market. This will involve working closely with our Resettlement Team and other partners locally. We believe that delivering this agenda is vital to ensure a more diverse and inclusive workforce
It is essential that you will be able to demonstrate experience of working in a similar post delivering employability interventions and dedicated support to refugees to prepare for, access and gain secure employment. It is further essential that you have a minimum SVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent in relevant discipline or relevant experience at an appropriate level working in an employability environment supporting individuals into positive and sustained destinations.
*Depending upon the needs of the service, staff in Hybrid roles will typically work from home for up to 40-60% of the time where the needs of the service can still be met.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. It is an offence therefore to apply if you are barred from working with protected adults.
