This Residential home based in the Cardiff area is looking to add to their warm and experienced team of childcare officers, they provide a short breaks and respite service for children and young people. The setting is purpose built to better accommodate the wide range of disabilities and needs of users and their families who use the specialist facility.

Your new role

• Ensuring that young people receive a sensitive service, which best meets their social, racial, psychological, educational, cultural, physical identity and health and wellbeing needs.
• Ensuring that each young person has a personal plan that reflects their assessed needs and goals and objectives of the placement.
• To ensure children and young people’s health and wellbeing needs are met including safe care practices and administration and disposal of medication
• Supporting children and young people who stay to ensure any personal care needs are met.
• Ensuring that young people are empowered to have a voice when making decisions about their lives and supporting them to meet their goals.
• Working with the team to enable and empower children and young people to participate in various meetings.
• Creating and maintaining good relationships with young people to ensure they are fully aware of their rights.
• Ensuring that good relationships with all young peoples’ families and significant others are developed and maintained ensuring consultation and participation.
• Maximising the use of the community facilities for the benefit of young people, developing, and maintaining relationships with the local community.
• Assuming key worker responsibilities in relation to specified children. This will involve the implementation, monitoring, and recording of Personal Plans.
• To make positive links other professionals.

What you’ll need to succeed

• Full Valid UK driving Licence – Essential
• Basic IT skills
• To be able to perform physical interventions in practice and demonstration.
• Must be able to manage the physical challenges of the post
• Ability to achieve Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) Wales and Northern Ireland within three years of appointment.
• Experience of working with young people aged 6 to 18 inclusive.
• Knowledge of the basic needs of young people (child-centred approach and the importance of routine, boundaries, consistency).
• Basic understanding of children’s rights.
• Skills in individual work with young people and being able to speak on behalf of a child.
• Ability to develop a quick rapport and positive relationships with young people and be flexible in meeting their needs.
• Able to communicate well with children and young people, families, colleagues, and external agencies.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Organised and able to plan, prepare and prioritise work.
