Castle Crags – Housing Support with Care at Home Service
Various locations, city wide.
Salary: £19,424 – £21,828 (pro rata for part time). Enhanced payments may be applicable.
Hours: Various full time and part time posts available
Castle Crags is a care and support service for adults with Learning Disabilities who have complex needs relating to Autism and/or who have high behavioural support needs including those which regularly challenge.
We are looking for staff to join our team within the Housing Support and Care at Home service. This service provides support to individuals to live in and receive support from their home on a 24/7 basis. Due to the growth within the service we have several posts across the city
You will work as part of a small team to promote individualised and person centred support to individuals from their own homes to meet their physical, social, emotional and well being needs.
There is a strong focus on partnership working with professionals and key stakeholders to develop robust support plans including using positive behaviour support approaches, community engagement and future planning.
The successful candidates will be required to work shifts on a planned rota system. This will include, early, mid, late and weekend shift working for which additional payments are made.
Appropriate training for the post will be provided and we will invest in our staff to gain the formal qualifications required for registration with SSSC. The service provides a robust learning and development programme for all staffs ongoing personal development.
Part time hours and flexible working arrangements may be negotiable.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
It is a condition of this post that you are Registered with the Scottish Social services Council (SSSC). If you are not registered with the SSSC when taking up this post you have six months from the date of your employment to do so.
Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.

Who are we
We are Edinburgh Councils internal service provider providing support to adults who have learning disabilities and have complex support needs. Our Housing Support & Care at Home service provides support to individuals within their own homes to meet all aspects of their individual needs
Where are the services located?
Housing Support with Care at Home is a city-wide service and we presently support individuals throughout the City of Edinburgh. The service is co-ordinated from our Castle Crags management hub based in South East Edinburgh (Craigmillar).
Who uses the services?
We support individuals from the age of 16 with no upper age limit.
Castle Crags and Housing Support with Care at Home; provide support to individuals who have complex care needs and require intensive support, including people with challenging behaviour, autism spectrum disorder, mental health needs, offending behaviour, or a combination of these.
What is complex care?
The City of Edinburgh Council considers adults with a learning disability to be ‘complex’ if:
they present chronic or episodic challenging behaviours, are workforce intensive, require intervention from two or more agencies, could pose a risk to themselves and/or others, and have specific needs for which there is no sustainable “ordinary” community support system available.
What training and development is provided?
All staff are provided with a nine day “Essential Learning for Care” induction program.
In addition to this we provide training to staff on Positive Behaviour Support, with both in house training and external accredited training presently provided by BILD accredited organisation CALM.
We provide service user specific training on a variety of augmented communication techniques.
We support staff to attain the required qualifications to meet registration with SSSC for the role they are employed for.
All staff will have their own ongoing training programme.
What staff support is provided?
All of the services have regular team meetings, and regular supervision. During induction staff should receive an increased level of supervision.
We have clear stress management, incident management, and debriefing processes, to support staff through difficult and challenging experiences. We also have in-house workplace wellbeing activities run by and for our own staff. This is in addition to City of Edinburgh Councils Workforce wellbeing initiatives and Employee Assistance Programme.
