Webwatch: I•ROC wellbeing launch validated mental health recovery tools

I•ROC wellbeing, a subsidiary company of Scottish mental health charity Penumbra, has launched a powerful set of digital mental health recovery tools.

The pioneering digital toolkit is a means for health and social care practitioners to measure the recovery journey of people they support. This allows organisations to generate immediate reports to demonstrate the value of their work.

I•ROC’s Product Manager, Graeme Walker, explains, “I•ROC wellbeing is a transforming approach using the latest technology to provide a clear structure for support and measure outcomes. Our mission is to provide a high quality service that improves mental health and wellbeing.”

The toolkit was developed by Penumbra staff in partnership with the people using their services and has been used there for the last 5 years. Designed to be reviewed every 3 months, it facilitates an outcome-focused discussion between the person being supported and staff on 12 key indicators of wellbeing across the HOPE Model (Home, Opportunity, People and Empowerment). This provides opportunity for issues that the service user may have been nervous or unaware of to arise naturally during the conversation.

With validation by the University of Abertay, it is now being used by community based health and social care organisations internationally, including the UK, USA, Netherlands and Spain.

The I•ROC questionnaire is available in a traditional paper format, a web based application and a mobile app. The data collected can be used by practitioners to help monitor the impact of their service, identify key areas of support and track progress towards recovery all at a touch of a button. For an organisation, this provides valuable data to measure their overall effectiveness, identify areas for future development and highlight demographic and equalities trends.

The core value of IROC wellbeing lies in its use as tool to facilitate a focused outcomes discussion between the person being supported and staff, enabling them to set goals together to support progress towards recovery.
