Survey: NAS survey on education and autism in England

The National Autistic Society (NAS) is asking people with autism aged 25 or younger and their parents about their experiences of education in England as the new SEN system is implemented.

Last September, the Children and Families Act introduced sweeping changes to the Special Educational Needs system in England (it does not apply to the rest of the UK). This included the replacement of Statements of SEN with Education, Health and Care Plans which can provide support for young people from 0-25 years old.

The NAS needs your help to let the Government know how the new SEN system is working for children and young people with autism and their families. Their key aim is to ensure children and young people with autism get the support they need and that parents don’t have to battle for that support.

  • If you are the parent of a child with autism under 25 please respond to this survey.
  • If you are a young person with autism under 25 please respond to this survey.

The deadline for completing the survey is 30 July 2015.

The NAS is also looking for case studies of parents and young people’s experiences of the new SEN system. If you have requested an Education, Health and Care Plan for your child, or your child has had a transfer review to determine whether their statement will be converted to an EHC Plan, the charity would be very keen to hear from you.
