New social worker recruitment video asks if you could make a difference

A new video ‘You can make a difference’ has been released today, World Social Work Day, to encourage more people to think about becoming a social worker.

The short video looks at five common scenarios where social workers working in social care in England made a real difference in the lives of those they were working with.

The video has been produced by a group of stakeholders chaired by the Chief Social Worker for adults in England, Lyn Romeo, which included representatives from the Department of Health and Social Care, Skills for Care, BASW, ADASS, NHS, The Local Government Association, Adult Principal Social Worker network, and Think Ahead.

Lyn Romeo said “I am so pleased that the sector has worked together to have a short film that captures the essence of social work and the difference that social work can make to improving people’s lives, in a diverse range of practice areas.  I hope this will prompt people to think about whether social work may be the career for them.”

“The film is designed to attract people to the profession and consider a career in social work. It features five different situations that social workers face on a daily basis.

“Filmed in black and white, the story is being told by the people who have been helped by their social workers and the sentences they speak, form a beautiful poem on where they were in life and how ‘you’, the social worker, have changed their lives.”
