Cartref Annwylfan Care Home worker picks up national award

JUST two years after taking on a new role, an Ammanford care worker has picked up a prestigious national award. Ria Hayward, 25, was honoured at the annual Wales Care Awards after judges learned how she had transformed the lives of residents at the Cartref Annwylfan Care Home, Betws.

The home’s activities co-ordinator, she was nominated in the category for Promoting Fulfilled Lives in the annual awards scheme organised by Care Forum Wales, the main representative body of the care sector in Wales.

The category was sponsored by Boots. During the ceremony, at Cardiff City Hall, Ria was presented with a bronze award.

She was nominated by the home manager, Adele Williams, who said she felt fortunate and proud to have such a wonderful person on her staff who fulfilled the lives of residents.

Bringing commitment and enthusiasm to the role, Ria is said to have made a huge difference, preparing a very busy daily programme – tailored to meet the wishes and needs of individual residents, several of whom suffer from dementia.
