X Factor star at Wrexham’s social work awareness event

WREXHAM is to fly the flag for social work in Wales. An event will be held at the RAFA Club on Ruthin Road, Wrexham on Saturday to raise awareness of social work in the Wales.

The evening of entertainment will involve a performance from X Factor contestant Clare Kay, a disco and cheese and wine tasting.

It is being sponsored by The Social Workers Award Scheme Cymru, The British Association of Social Workers, The RAFA Club and North East Wales Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Foundation.

Keith Drury, deputy chair of the British Association of Social Workers Cymru said: “This is a great opportunity for members of the public including service users, carers, families, community groups, providers of care and of course social workers, to come together and celebrate social work in Wales.

“There are social workers across Wales who carry out good work in their respective communities which often goes unnoticed.

“This is a pioneering project to promote positive images of social work and to raise the profile of an often misunderstood profession in Wales.”

Celia Hart, equalities manager at Wrexham Council said: “I am delighted to support this event and help raise awareness of the important role social workers play in today’s life.

“Rarely do social workers gain any recognition for the difficult job they do day in and day out.

“Each person brings a range of hard earned qualifications, specialist skills, personal qualities and commitment to the role.

“This evening is about celebrating the role of the social worker.”

Tickets are £5.50 and can be purchased from the RAFA club or by contacting 07834 776603 or 07920 485637.
