Service Failings To Be Kept Under Wraps For Month

THE details of how Swansea Council’s child social services department is failing youngsters in the city will remain a secret until next month.

AM Gwenda Thomas, deputy minister for social services, has issued a damning statement on the department, and has given the council until Wednesday, March 18, to come up with ways to improve the service.

Her actions have been prompted by a report from the Children’s Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CSSIW), which has been monitoring the department since 2007.

But the report will not be made public until April, and Mrs Thomas said she could not give other AMs, or the Swansea public, details about where the service was failing.
