Nurseries Rewarded For Healthy Eating Work

HEALTHY eating is being promoted at two Pembrokeshire nurseries which have now become the first in Wales to achieve a national health promotion award.

Jumping Beans Nursery in Pembroke Dock and Happy Days Childcare in Milford Haven have been given awards from the Welsh Assembly Government under its Welsh Network of Healthy Schools schemes.

The two nurseries have been taking part in a pilot initiative to develop healthy eating and lifestyle habits at an early age.

The pilot, being run jointly with the NHS, has been so successful that it will now be rolled out at other nurseries.

Islwyn Howells, cabinet member for children and young people, said, “One of the best ways to tackle obesity is to develop healthy habits at an early age.

“These youngsters and their carers learn about healthy food and active lifestyles through example and, hopefully, they will continue the health habit throughout their lives.”
