New Single Service For Children

New plans have been unveiled to integrate services for children and young people in Swansea.

The proposals by Swansea’s Children and Young People’s Partnership, a group of statutory and voluntary organisations, would see a single lead agency working with the same child or young person and their family, instead of a number of agencies.

Leaders of Swansea Council have approved a three-month consultation on the plans which, if successful, will see a pilot introduced in 2008 to 2011.

Mary Jones, lead member for children and young people, said: “The purpose of this plan is to better target action and enable agencies to pool resources and develop specially commissioned services where they are most needed.

“There are many agencies and organisations serving the needs of children, young people and their families in Swansea, many providing high-quality support.

“By joining together in this way, we can identify where the gaps are, build on good practice and develop the workforce we need to further improve the quality and range of services we provide.”

The children and young people plan is an Assembly initiative which in Swansea will be delivered through a multi-agency programme entitled improving outcomes for children and young people in Swansea.
