Swansea Care Team In Drive For Members

Social services bosses are hoping to tackle a shortage of carers in Swansea with an open day next month. Young people from across the region will be able to get an insight into social care careers as part of the recruitment drive.

The Connect to Care career information day will feature workshops staffed by professionals.

These include those working in the voluntary sector, those with learning disabilities and the elderly.

It has been sparked by a nationwide shortage of care staff.

Sally Thomas, young persons co-ordinator for Swansea Council, said it was crucial to attract more students into the field.

She said: “Unfortunately, there appears to be stigma attached to social care, and we want to dispel the myths.

“The work is very rewarding and there is scope for advancement through continuing professional development.”

The Connect to Care event will be held on Wednesday, March 5, in the Scout and Guide Headquarters in Bryn Road, Brynmill, Swansea.
