Indefinite Jail For Toddler Abuse

A babysitter has been jailed at Cardiff Crown Court for sexually assaulting a three-year-old in his care and an attack on a woman the night before. Darren Rose, 21, of Abertillery, Blaenau Gwent, admitted the separate attacks on the woman and the toddler.

Rose was given an indeterminate sentence and will serve at least four years before applying for parole. The judge told him: “You represent a high risk of serious harm to the public.” He must register as a sex offender for life and is disqualified from working with children.

The court heard Rose put the toddler through an horrific sex ordeal while he was looking after her. When the girl’s mother came home she found the three-year-old screaming, crying and seriously injured. The girl was so distressed she had to be examined under general anaesthetic, the court heard.

A routine DNA swab taken from Rose him matched samples taken from a sex attack on a 30-year-old woman the day before.

Judge Christopher Llewellyn-Jones said: “It is apparent that this little girl continues to suffer as a result of the assault. Her mother says it breaks her heart to see the change in her. These offences are of a worrying serious nature and indicate a degree of predatory behaviour.
