Social Worker Removed From The Register Following Conduct Hearing

On Thursday, 15 March, a Care Council for Wales Conduct Committee decided on the case of a social worker employed by Reed Health in the Bridgend area who was alleged to have breached the Codes of Practice for Social Care Workers.

The Registrant, Robin Nigel Grant from Bridgend, was found guilty of misconduct and was removed from the Register for Social Care Workers.

In finding misconduct, the Committee found that Mr Grant’s conduct in relation to both service users and colleagues involved extensive breaches of the Codes of Practice over a period of time. This amounted to very serious misconduct, the majority of which was of a sexual nature.

The Committee’s Chair said, “The Committee has a duty to ensure that the public are protected and it is essential that the public have, and continue to have, confidence in the social care workforce. The committee must be seen to be safeguarding this interest and the public in general from acts of misconduct by registrants.”

Registrants have a right of appeal to the independent Care Standards Tribunal. The decision follows a two day hearing by the Care Council for Wales Conduct Committee in Cardiff.
