Internet Paedophile Is Jailed

An internet paedophile spared jail after a request by the Home Secretary to use prison sparingly was today imprisoned for eight months.

Derek Williams, 46, received a suspended sentence in January after a judge said he must “bear in mind” John Reid’s request.

The father of two, from Blaenau Ffestiniog, north Wales, had downloaded dozens of pornographic images of children on to his computer.

Judge John Rogers QC, initially sentenced him to a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

Williams appeared before the same judge again at Mold Crown Court today after admitting failing to register as a sex offender.
