Improvement Notice served on Ayrshire care home

The Care Inspectorate has served a formal Improvement Notice on an Ayrshire care home.

The move comes following an unannounced inspection at Woodside House Care Home in Mauchline which found the quality of care to be unsatisfactory in every area inspected.

The home must now demonstrate significant improvement, or face further regulatory action. It is currently closed to new admissions and the Care Inspectorate is working closely with the home to make the required changes.

A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate said: “Our inspectors found several areas of significant concern. The quality of care was simply not acceptable.

“Every person has the right to safe, high-quality, compassionate care that meets their needs and respects their rights. We are now working closely with the home to ensure that happens.

“We have particular concerns around care plans which set out the needs of each resident, and staffing levels. We also expect to see safe and appropriate activities for residents.

“We require significant improvements to the medication system within the next six weeks, including storing medicines safely. There must be no ambiguity around administering prescriptions and staff must be properly trained in this.
“We also require improvements to record keeping and adult protection policies.

“Our priority is always the safety and well-being of residents, so this improvement notice sets out what we expect the care home to do to ensure that the care provided improves.

“We will be inspecting this service again soon to ensure that progress is being made and will continue to work closely with the home.”
