Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland expands support in West of Scotland

One in every ten people in the West of Scotland is living with the effects of chest, heart or stroke illness – a worrying figure which has led Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland to open a new office in Glasgow.

The charity already has a very active presence in the area with a range of community services, specialist nurses and vital medical research funding at local universities and hospitals.

However, the new location – based at Glasgow’s Pacific Quay, will enable the charity to expand these services even further.

CHSS service user and volunteer Linda McAndrew said, “Our local Communication Support Services for people who have had a stroke are absolutely brilliant.  I lacked confidence and was angry after I had my stroke, but the local CHSS coordinator and the other service users were so supportive that I improved my confidence enormously.  I get out and about much more and have trained as a volunteer to help other people in the same situation.  It really has transformed my life.”

Glasgow’s Lord Provost Sadie Docherty, who was represented at the opening by Bailie Phil Greene, said: “The CHSS office at The Hub is great news for the people of this city. Anyone with associated health concerns will be able to get the best advice, help and support.

“We all know this is vital in improving recovery rates and management of these conditions. I send CHSS and its staff my congratulations and my very best wishes.”

The new service is located at The Hub, 70 Pacific Quay, Glasgow, G51 1DZ.
