SVQ awards for staff at Storyville

A PRESENTATION of SVQ level three awards took place at Storyville Care Home in Kirriemuir last Wednesday.

The awards were handed to the qualifying members of staff by the care home’s oldest resident, 103-year-old Mrs Bertha Hastie, she will be turning 104 on June 17.

The manager at Storyville, Mr Malcolm Daw, praised his staff for completing their studies in a “record time” of five months.

He said: “Staff training at Storyville is paramount in providing a high standard of care which is expected by our residents.”

Mrs Hastie remarked on how hard they had to study in order to achieve this milestone in their careers.

The “high flyers” at Storyville care Home who received their awards were Ksenya Haggart, Lynn Munro, Karlene MacKay and Hollie Forbes.

The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) three in Health and Social Care (Adults) at SCQF level seven is based on standards developed collaboratively by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

In Scotland, the SSSC represents a wide variety of stakeholders working in a broad range of occupations and job roles within the health and social care sectors.

The SVQ is assessed in the workplace, or in conditions of the workplace.

Examples of the settings or centres in which the SVQ is likely to be delivered include: the NHS, private healthcare providers, adult care settings such as Storyville Care Home and training centres with realistic working environment approval.

The qualification is also available through colleges and training providers.
