New autism directory launched in Tayside

ANGUS Council has teamed up with NHS Tayside to help people find services that are autism friendly.

And together they launched a directory detailing services for people with the condition on Monday.

The directory contains information on a range of services locally and nationally which are available to children and adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The directory outlines services that are also available to parents and carers of people with ASD.

Angus Council convener of social work and health, Councillor Glennis Middleton said: “There are seven sections within the directory covering such topics as local social work, specialist education services, support groups and short breaks.

“We hope that the introduction of this directory is helpful for individuals who are seeking out details of support available in Angus and also nationally for people with autism”.

Bill Troup, senior manager for mental health services across Angus added: “The introduction of this directory for professionals and members of the public is most positive.

“It clearly lays out what is available and there may be some services that individuals weren’t aware of to date that would support people with the condition. Professionals will also be able to use it as a helpful handbook”.

To ensure that this directory is both useful and relevant, it includes services specifically designed for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families.

The directory can be found on www.angus.gov.uk/asddirectory.
