Dundee care worker accused of neglecting an 82-year-old

A care home worker is to stand trial accused of “wilfully neglecting” an 82-year-old patient.

Ann Marie Davidson, 53, is accused of ill-treating James Greig at Pitkerro Care Centre in Dundee between 1 November and 7 December last year.

She denies the allegations, which include using a vacuum cleaner to clean up spilt food from his body and placing him in a scalding hot shower.

The trial will be heard on 23 October.

Ms Davidson is charged with slapping Mr Greig on the hand, using an unclean razor to shave him and placing him in a scalding hot running shower without checking the temperature, causing a reddening of his skin.

It is further alleged that she used a vacuum cleaner to clean foodstuffs from his body.

The 53-year-old, from Dundee, denies the charge under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003.

Michael Short, defending, told Dundee Sheriff Court that Ms Davidson would maintain her not guilty plea.
