Mental Health Service Investment Outlined

An investment plan has been developed to support a multi-million pound modernisation of mental health services in Dumfries and Galloway. A report is set to be presented to members of the region’s health board.

Last month, the local NHS authority agreed to seek ministerial support for the redesign programme. A key element of the plans is to construct a new acute admission and rehabilitation centre in Dumfries to replace outdated ward accommodation.

The £19m project to modernise mental health services in Dumfries and Galloway was unveiled last year. Part of the project is a new 75-bed centre in Dumfries to open in 2010.
