£30 Million Scheme To Bring Health And Social Care ‘Under One Roof’

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has been given approval for the new facilities in Barrhead and Renfrew. Tim Eltringham, of East Renfrewshire Community Health and Care Partnership, will oversee the development of the new Barrhead centre on the site of the former Carlibar primary school. He said: “The existing health centre no longer meets the needs of patients and staff. The new one will be larger and offer a wider range of services in a modern and attractive environment.”

East Renfrewshire deputy leader Danny Collins, who chairs the partnership, said: “The new centre forms a key part of the council’s wider regeneration plan for Barrhead. It will bring health and social care under the one roof, making it easier and quicker for local people to access the services they need.”

The centre will house three GP practices, along with community nursing teams, day care and support services for older people and a community mental health unit.

Funding from East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire councils will be added to a major contribution from the Scottish Executive.

David Leese, director of Renfrewshire Community Health Partnership, which will manage the new centre in Renfrew, said: “This announcement means we are now able to take forward plans to develop a wider range of services, including minor surgery and additional nurse-led clinics.”

Renfrewshire councillor Tommy Williams said: “This will provide a major boost to public services in Renfrew and the surrounding area.”

Social workers and home carers will operate from the new building which will also provide accommodation for voluntary care groups.
