New kinship care film launched by CHILDREN 1ST

A new DVD by CHILDREN 1ST featuring three kinship carers talking about their own experiences and explaining how the charity has supported them has been launched this month.

It is estimated that there are around 20,000 children in formal and informal kinship care arrangements, many of whom are ‘hidden’ families who would benefit from knowing where and how to get help.

CHILDREN 1ST runs Scotland’s National Kinship Care service for anyone looking after a child on behalf of a relative or friend. While the majority of kinship carers are grandparents, they can also include aunts or uncles and family friends.

The service, funded by the Scottish Government, provides advice, support and information, including a dedicated kinship care helpline run by ParentLine Scotland, and works with kinship care families to identify what help they and their children need.

The DVD can be viewed at www.children1st.org.uk/services/170/kinship-care

Kinship carers can contact the Kinship Care Helpline by calling ParentLine Scotland on 08000 28 22 33 or emailing [email protected].
