24-hour helpline launched for victims of sexual violence

A 24-hour telephone line is now available in Northern Ireland for those who have been affected by sexual violence.

The helpline is managed by the Women’s Aid Federation and has been running since 2005 for victims of domestic violence. Now it has expanded to include victims of sexual abuse.

The service includes a telephone, email and text service which is available to all women and men affected by domestic and sexual violence.

Speaking at the launch, DUP Health Minister Edwin Poots said it was “appalling” that victims felt unable or unwilling to confide in someone – but that he hoped the confidential helpline “can help break that silence”.

The 24 Hour Domestic and Sexual Violence Helpline is available on 0808 802 1414.
