Tributes Paid To Dementia Carers

More money is to be made available for the community and voluntary sector to go towards advocacy and dementia carers’ support services, the Province’s Health Minister has revealed.

Michael McGimpsey was speaking yesterday as he paid tribute to people working to improve the quality of life for people with dementia.

He made the comments as he attended yesterday’s Northern Ireland Dementia Care Awards 2008 in Belfast.

The event which was hosted by the Dementia Services Development Centre as part of the first International Conference on Dementia.

The minister presented awards to Antrim man James Barrow, who cares for his elderly wife, and Imelda Graham, director of Newington Day Centre in Belfast.
