World Experts Gather For Cancer Conference

The prevention, treatment and care of cancer will come under the spotlight at a major health conference in Dublin today.

Experts from all over the world will address some 200 people at the sixth International Cancer Conference at Dublin Castle.

Professor Mark Lawler of Trinity College, who organised the three-day event entitled ‘Striving for Success in Cancer Care’, said it will give professionals an update on the latest developments and challenges on cancer prevention, treatment and care.

“The line-up of experts, from Ireland, US, UK and elsewhere, who are scheduled to present at the conference, will ensure that all of us will learn from this event – and that our patients will ultimately benefit,” he said.

The conference will open today with a workshop on clinical trials, with Health Minister Mary Haney addressing delegates tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Defining Quality in Breast Cancer Care will be among the topics studied on Friday.

The conference is organised in collaboration with St James’s Hospital, Health Services Executive, Irish Cancer Society and Trinity College, Dublin.
