Number Of Criminal Trials Increases By 20% In Two Years

The number of criminal trials held in the Circuit Court has increased by over 20%. More than 2,500 Circuit Court trials took place last year – an increase of a fifth over two years.

A total of 46% of defendants were dealt with in Dublin. The Courts Service says waiting times for cases is currently less than six months in most major towns.

The Circuit Court sits across the country and deals with all serious crime except murder and rape.
