Study Finds 95% Of Reported Rape Cases Never Go To Court

A new study by the Rape Crisis Network has reportedly found that Ireland has the worst record in Europe when it comes to successfully prosecuting rape and other sex crimes.

Reports this morning say the research has found that 95% of rape cases reported to Gardai never reach the courts.

The situation is even more startling given that less than 10% of rape and sexual assault cases are reported to the Gardai in the first place.

The lack of reporting and the high “attrition rate” are being blamed on a lack of public confidence in the legal system and the garda ability to investigate sex crimes.

The study has found that more than one woman is raped every day in Dublin alone.
