No Resolution In Sight As Nurses Plan Further Stoppages

There is no sign of any moves today to resolve the long-running nurses’ pay dispute as hospitals in Dublin and Roscommon prepare for the latest round of work stoppages tomorrow.

There is no sign of any moves today to resolve the long-running nurses’ pay dispute as hospitals in Dublin and Roscommon prepare for the latest round of work stoppages tomorrow.

Members of the INO and PNA are due to walk off the job for an hour at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital and Roscommon General Hospital.

Mental health services in Dublin and Roscommon will also be targeted.

Yesterday, both the Health Service Executive and Minister for Health Mary Harney appealed to nurses to return to talks on the matter.

However, they also continued to insist that the issue of pay can only be dealt with through the benchmarking process, something the nurses say they have no confidence in.

The nursing unions and hospital management are meeting today to discuss contingency plans for tomorrow’s stoppages, while Beaumont is also set to start contacting patients whose appointments will have to be cancelled because of the action.
