Nurses Blame Managers For Disruption

Nurses are accusing health service managers of responsibility for any disruption being felt as a result of their ongoing work-to-rule action. Members of the Irish Nurses Organisation and the Psychiatric Nurses Association are beginning the third day of the protest today in pursuit of improved pay and conditions.

Yesterday, they also warned that they were planning all-out work stoppages from next Wednesday if their demands are not addressed.

The Health Service Executive claims the work-to-rule has already caused widespread disruption, but the INO says this is the fault of senior managers and not nursing staff.

The union says nurses are continuing to provide patient care, but many hospital managers have failed to draw up contingency plans for dealing with the nurses’ refusal to engage in clerical and administrative duties.
